FilmFestivals.com Mission Statement
This is our vision
Today, thanks to the Internet, the international world of festivals and
films - until recently reserved to a public composed primarily of film
connoisseurs and industry professionals- can expand to a larger audience,
freed from geographical constraints. Online broadcasting provides a film
and filmmaker a new opportunity to seek and find its public.
The time - place constraints, and the costs of promotion are considerably
reduced by digital showcasing.
The logic of film broadcasting then becomes freer, more flexible, lighter,
and closer to the concept of reading a book today, for example.
The choice then becomes more individual, the relationship more intimate,
more risky, more passionate... For each individual to discover, to program,
to react, criticize and to share... Based on the obvious condition of
fully protecting intellectual property and broadcasting rights, a new
economy of the cinema can be born from the Internet.
Digital Utopia ?
We certainly do not think so. We are convinced that it is necessary to
seize this opportunity to free the cinematographic creation that has so
long been constrained by mass media dictates, and the current distribution
systems.
The independent film industry should not be mistaken: the "majors"
already control the main channels of distribution, and now have begun
to converge with the largest Internet players to create broad portals
that are dedicated to online film broadcasting (AOL / Time Warner, Vivendi/Universal...).
This is why it is vital to create alternative platforms, of international
scale, that devote a place to the discovery, to the creative audacity,
and the new talents of independent cinema.
These platforms must offer new means of promotion and broadcasting at
lower cost in order to support and enlarge the economy of the independent
cinema, while allowing each film to quickly find its public.
We believe that the world's window on festivals and the access to online
broadcasting constitute an outstanding opportunity that remains to be
fully exploited.
The goal of Filmfestivals.com is to be one of the key players in this
new cinema revolution and to explore with pioneering filmmakers the new
grammar of interactive film online viewing.
Therefore, we invite filmmakers respected leaders of the global film industry
to support and participate in our effort to fundamentally transform the
independent film industry.
