The Madeira Film Festival intends to be Europe’s most exclusive and independent festival. Held at the prestigious Reid’s Palace Hotel The Madeira Film Festival serves as a platform to showcase independent feature, short and documentary films from directors around the world. Indicative of Madeira’s continued commitment to preserve the Natural History, flora and fauna of the island, the festival will present a special environmental category screening worldwide nature orientated films. The aim of the Madeira Film Festival is to encourage creativity in all aspects of film production, not dependent on financial and physical restrictions, gender, geographical location, age or ability. We acknowledge and encourage film making through diversity and ‘out of the box’ thinking and we pay special attention to films ( shorts, docs and features ) pertaining to the environment and it’s relevance and importance in the world we live in today.
The world’s largest Laurissilva forest is located on the island of Madeira. In 1999 the 15,000 hectare indigenous ‘living relic’ was awarded the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Through the medium of film MFF intends to enhance education and global awareness of the Laurissilva and its importance to the ecological balance of Madeira thus sustaining the endemic flora and fauna.
The Madeira Film Festival recognizes the integrity of filmmakers around the world and consequently will present the ‘Laurissilva Award’ to the best documentary, short, feature and nature oriented film judged by an International Jury. MFF acts as a service to the local community and audience as a launchpad providing an attractive slate of films.
We are a festival with cultural aspirations. We are both a public and a pilgrimage festival. One of our roles is to discover talent and support, not necessarily financially. Although we aren’t in the business of film distribution we believe festivals play an ever increasing role in distribution due to the advent of new technology. MFF has a small yet critical role to play in this formula by helping the viewer at home decide what to watch i.e. Who is in it? What’s the film about? What have I heard about it? Basically festivals can help push the right button.
The organisation „Visos mūzos“ has established Kaunas International Film Festival (Kaunas IFF) in 2007 as a public act seeking to draw attention of audiences and decision makers towards homogenization of film culture in Lithuania and seeking to save the oldest cinema theater in Lithuania. The event during the years developed into a real celebration of film art.
Festival
Today, Kaunas IFF is one of Lithuania’s most appreciated film festivals and the main film event in Kaunas. It presents films which have been acclaimed worldwide and also looks for new discoveries. The main priority of Kaunas IFF is a combination of the artistic and social statements in film. The festival continues its strategy to present exclusively Lithuanian or Baltic premiers. 5th edition, September 27 - October 9, 2011 includes: feature films in the Wide Angle, Identity sections. Mainly documentaries in “Music Moves the world”, “All the Muses” sections, and selection of short films, animations and retrospectives in side-bars . Kaunas IFF is the official festival and distribution partner of the innovative network „Eye on Films“, supported by MEDIA Mundus, a member of the CICAE network, and the Lithuanian representative organisation in the European Network of Young Cinema – Nisi Masa.
Distribution
In 2010 Kaunas IFF started theatrical distribution in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. While major distributors in the Baltic countries mainly present Hollywood studio productions and mainstream 3D films, Kaunas International Film Festival seeks to make space for art-house films in cinemas. The idea is to influence and change the theatrical distribution situation in the Baltic countries by increasing the number of art-house films in the regular cinema repertoire. Kaunas IFF believes in strengthening the film industry by art-house film promotion and distribution.
Objectives
The central objective for Kaunas IFF is to enhance film culture and film industry in Lithuania and to represent Lithuanian film industry for film professionals worldwide. Festival celebrates art-house filmmaking. An important part of the film culture revival in Lithuania is presenting retrospective programmes combined with panel discussions, master-classes, special lectures as part of film education.
The Wild Rose Independent Film Festival will be held November 3-10, 2011 at the Fleur Cinema and Café in Des Moines. This artsy, hip and indie -friendly theatre/coffee house/bar/cafe has proven to be a fun and convenient venue also allowing attending filmmakers and audience close proximity to a wide variety of shops, restaurants, bars and music. Dimension 3 2011 reaffirms its ambition to offer a networking platform, by gathering together professionals who offer new tools, products or services and those who are looking for solutions or new practices in the field of images, from creation to visualization. Efforts should be made to avoid trivialization and give creation a prestigious image, be it stereoscopic 3D, mixed reality, haptic technologies, ultra-high resolution, etc. Technology should make images smarter, but also continue to be a vector for emotions: creators must hold a prominent position at the center of this issue. In this perspective, Dimension 3 new edition also provides a place for young creators to showcase their talents, offering opportunities and creating vocations. This year’s event is spread out across two venues, one of which is dedicated to the ecosystem of images from filming to visualization, the other to new uses and talents.

The Jamaica Film Academy has moved the dates of the REGGAE FILM FESTIVAL 2011 from February to May 23-27, 2011, to be held at the Whitter Village, Ironshore, Montego Bay. With its commitment to highlighting Jamaica's reggae culture in film, the Reggae Film Festival will celebrate two international milestones during the week-long event. The birthday of Emperor Haile Selassie I will be honoured at the Opening Night Gala on May 23, while the UN Year of African Descendants will be celebrated with a special programme of films on May 25, African Liberation Day. Other features of the Festival include the Make a Film in 24 Hours competition, a Children's Film programme, a Film Seminar featuring specially invited VIP Guests and a final night Honour Awards showcase of the winning films.
The REGGAE FILM FESTIVAL has been invited to be part of two major cultural events in Britain this year. The Drum Arts Centre in Birmingham, the largest venue for Black arts in Europe, will present the REGGAE FILM FESTIVAL as part of its Summer season's theme of Reggae & Revolution, while the Wandsworth Festival to be held in London in August, is designed to showcase Caribbean Culture. The Best of the Reggae Film FEstival will be presented at programmes in Atlanta, USA in June and in South Africa in July, while in August the Festival will once again be a feature of the Rototom Reggae Sunsplash in Spain.
Films already entered include the US feature film 'ROCKSTEADY' featuring David Hinds of Steel Pulse; SUPERSTONIC SOUND, a tribute to Black British film maker and dubmaster DJ Don Letts; EVERYDAY SUNSHINE,a documentary about the US rock-punk-reggae group Fishbone narrated by Laurence Fishbourne; and THE SKIN by HamaFilms Antigua, featuring Carl Bradshaw. Invited international guests include Laurence Fishbourne, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lennox Lewis, Carl Lumley and Mitzi Allen, as well as Jamaican film makers Chris Browne, Ras Kassa and Storm Saulter.
There are several advantages to moving the event to the new date in May. Since announcing the February date, the organizers have received notification of several important films that wish to be included in the Festival, but that are not yet ready for screening in February. They include a major British TV series and several Jamaican feature and documentary films that hope to include the Reggae Film Festival in their film's resume and hopefully, awards.
The Whitter Village welcomes the new dates. "I am pleased to have more time for the Village to settle in after its December opening," says proprietor Angela Whitter, "and to make sure that everything is in place for what know will be the most unusual and interesting event taking place in Montego Bay this year, at the most unusual and interesting place in Montego Bay."
The REGGAE FILM FESTIVAL continues its plans to make the 2011 event a worthy showcase of Jamaican film culture.
