ABOUT THE FESTIVAL: Tahoe/Reno International
Film Festival (T-RIFF) presents a 5 day exploration of discovery
through soul stirring and spirited independent film contributions
that open the hearts and minds of movie lovers. With our eyes on
the success of the nouveau talent, we have made a personable and
intimate networking marketplace for meetings and socializing. In
addition to screening a rare and diverse spectrum of films, T-RIFF
hosts Workshops, Tributes, Parties, a Gala and a Short Script Competition,
PAGES TO PICTURES. The winning screenplay will be produced into
a film and screened during the Festival.
FESTIVAL
LOCATION: Films Screened in theaters and an outdoor natural
Amphitheater, Sand Harbor, overlooking beautiful Lake Tahoe; Nevada’s
most prestigious and magical outdoor venue. T-RIFF is headquartered
in Incline Village, Nevada, a picturesque evergreen filled community
located on the panoramic North Shore of Lake Tahoe, the largest
alpine lake in North America. Our region is a mecca for sailing,
fishing, mountain biking, hiking, golf, winter sports and an ample
night life including casino gaming. The scenic drive around the
lake is considered by many, the most magnificent in America, a filmmakers
dream. Our community is teeming with culturally-creative and environmentally
savvy residents, all of which promises to make your vacation interesting
and thought provoking.
A
BRIEF HISTORY OF T-RIFF: Our offices are headquartered
in a $6.7 million facility (your hospitality center) funded by the
Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. T-RIFF is one of 11 non-profit organizations
chosen to be housed in this model collaborative project for the
world, the first of its kind in the nation. Operating since 1999,
we have produced approximately 150 educational events in the literary
and multimedia arts. T-RIFF holds ongoing screenings, screenwriting
courses, filmmaking classes, TV Production workshops, owns and operates
Lake Tahoe Public TV.

ENTRY CATEGORIES
Global
Distinction
An international showcase of socially relevant and entertaining
films from around the world. Filmmakers outside the U.S. are invited
to submit shorts (39 minutes or under) and feature length films
(over 40 minutes) including animation. Students may apply in this
category.
Eye on Discovery
Devoted to the Independent Spirit of American filmmakers with an
emphasis on discovering new talent. Residents of the U.S. are invited
to submit shorts (39 minutes or under) and feature length films
(over 40 minutes) including animation. Students may apply in this
category.
Reel Point of View
A display of visual essays which seek to dramatically impact the
audience through experiences of the human spirit, historical subjects,
or current social and political issues. Submit documentary shorts
(39 minutes or under) and feature length (over 40 minutes). Local,
national, and international filmmakers and students may apply in
this category.
Tahoe “Big Water” Cal Neva Spotlight
An eclectic exhibition of gutsy filmmakers from all over Nevada
and California share their adventures and personal visions through
film. This category applies to all filmmakers living within Nevada
and California. Tahoe Filmmakers living within 150 mile radius,
applying to any category will automatically be placed in this category
for free. All may submit both shorts (39 minutes or under) and feature
length films (over 40 minutes) including animation. Students may
apply in this category.
Short Script Contest
WINNING SCRIPT PRODUCED INTO A DIGITAL FILM. Tired of all the same
old, same old screenwriting contests? The winning script of this
prestigious contest will be produced into a digital film during
our Film Festival. Although we welcome scripts from around the world,
they must be written in English using US Motion Picture industry
standard screenplay format.

Your script will be produced into a digital film during the festival
by our Hollywood Professional crew.
• The film will be screened at the Festival during our awards
luncheon Sunday, August 28, 2005.
• Lucky you! You’ll take the Assistant Director position
and work alongside a seasoned Director and crew, learning the process
of how to make a film, fast ... and get your name in the film credits.
• You will receive an All Access Pass (one) to the Tahoe/Reno
International Film Festival, with celebrity status.
• One roundtrip airline ticket from your home (within the
continental U.S.) to Reno, NV (lowest fare not to exceed $500).
• Lodging, (single room, one person) for the duration of the
film production and during the Tahoe/Reno International Film Festival
(no less than 4 nights, no more than 7 nights).
• You’ll have the film as a calling card and be able
to promote yourself with it in hand. You can use it in many promotional
ways, even enter it in film festivals.

COMPLETE RULES FOR FILM SUBMISSIONS
• Early Bird Deadline: Films postmarked by March 15, 2005.
Standard Deadline: Films postmarked by May 2, 2005. Late Entry Deadline:
Films postmarked by May 16, 2005. WAB Extended Deadline: Films postmarked
by May 30, 2005.
• Entry fee is nonrefundable.
• Previewed Video or DVD selections will NOT be returned and
may become part of the T-RIFF private library.
• Filmmakers will be notified via e-mail ONLY if accepted
into the festival.
• Films/videos that have received national U.S. network television
(including cable) or theatrical release prior to our Festival are
not eligible.
• For preview purposes, only 1/2" VHS (NTSC) and DVD
(NTSC only) are accepted.
• VHS cassettes and DVD’s MUST BE CLEARLY labeled with
film title, running time and contact information; VHS on the spine
or DVD in center.
• Do not send tapes in fiber filled envelopes as that may
damage your tape and our equipment.
• Do NOT send any original or master copies of anything.
• No music videos or commercials accepted.
• More than one entry may be submitted in each category.
• Each entry must be accompanied by the entry fee and a legible
(prefer printed or typed) original, Official Entry and Release Form.
• If you need a quick acknowledgement of receipt of your submission,
include a self-addressed, stamped postcard.
• If you are selected, your project must be in our office
no later than August 5, 2005, unless other arrangements have been
made.
• The filmmaker will assume shipping costs of materials and
prints to T-RIFF.
• T-RIFF will pay ground shipping to return exhibition copies
only. All non-ground shipping requests must be paid by filmmakers.
• If your film is selected, you will be asked to provide:
B & W and color stills from the film; press materials; video
trailer and digitized trailer for website (if available); posters
and flyers.
• Titles produced in languages other than English must have
legible English subtitles.
• Not all films officially selected will be eligible for competition.
• The selection committees' and juries' decisions are final.
• Title of work and name of entrant must be on all mailing
containers and mailing labels, video boxes, photographs, videocassettes,
film containers, DVD, cans, reels, and film leaders. Video boxes,
film reels and cans must be numbered (1 of 2, 2 of 2, etc.).
• Import declaration statements: all non-U.S. entries must
be sent via air mail registered with the declaration: A) for 35mm
films: "Free entry claimed under #724.10 (960.55) U.S. Tariff
Act. To be returned following the Festival." B) for videotapes:
"Free entry claimed under #724.12 (960.60) U.S. Tariff Act.
To be returned following the Festival." Entrants must assume
all responsibility for clearing films and videotapes through U.S.
and/or foreign customs officials.
• T-RIFF reserves the right to make any necessary changes
in Rules and Regulations or Festival scheduling.
• Filmmakers applying for the Cal Neva Spotlight Award must
enclose, with their entry, a copy of their valid photo drivers license
as proof of residence within Nevada or California.
• For student-produced work, a copy of a current student ID,
or evidence of work being completed while entrant was a student,
must be included with the application.
• CHOOSE SUBMISSION METHOD: If applying through withoutabox.com
don’t forget to place your tracking I.D. on your preview cassette
or DVD and follow the instructions which you will receive on your
"confirmation page". You may still choose to mail your
submissions the old fashioned way, if so, follow the instructions
below. Complete the Official Entry and Release forms entirely, enclose
them with a labeled 1/2" videotape copy of the film, or a DVD
and a printed press kit or digital press kit and the applicable

REGULATIONS
•
Films submitted must have been completed after January 1, 2003.
• Write Total Running Time on preview copy
• All foreign language films must have English subtitles.
• Films publicly screened in the U.S. must include information:
when, where and awards received with entry form
• Films selected for screening is done by special committee.
• Entry forms, preview tapes must be prepaid, postmarked by
designated deadlines, contain appropriate fee.

SHORT SCRIPT COMPETITION RULES
The
Short Screenplay Competition, PAGES TO PICTURES, is only open to
writers who do not earn a living writing for the big or little screens.
All Screenplays must be written in English.
Authors
must be over 18 years of age at the time of submission. Applicants
must not have been optioned or sold prior to August 24, 2005. Screenplays
must be the original work of the applicant(s) and a complete story,
not part of a longer work. If based upon another's life experience,
applicant(s) must attach a statement attesting to their rights to
make such adaptations. Neither the Festival nor its Jurists investigates
or attests to the authenticity of an applicant's statement of authorship
or rights.
We
advise that you register your screenplay with the Writers Guild
of America, East or West (of the Mississippi). For more information

THE LATE ENTRY MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN May 30, 2005.
You
may submit more than one screenplay providing that each submission
is accompanied by a $35 submission fee PER ENTRY postmarked by May
1, 2005 or a $50 submission fee PER ENTRY postmarked by May 30,
2005 and a completed entry and release form (for each script) including
author(s)' original signature(s). A photocopy of your signature
will not be accepted. Awards are based on overall merit of the entries.
Jurists reserve the right not to grant an award.
There
are no restrictions on genre, but keep in mind the winning script
will be produced in North Lake Tahoe in conjunction with the Tahoe/Reno
International Film Festival (T-RIFF). Those scripts with elaborate
stunts, special effects, and exotic locations will probably not
be picked for production. In addition, no graphic violence or sexual
content, nudity, scenes of extreme abuse, or excessive profanity
will be accepted.
T-RIFF
reserves the right to change any content in the screenplay.
Please
enclose a self addressed, stamped post card if you wish to receive
return acknowledgement of your script’s safe arrival in our
office.
Format
Rules
• The screenplay must be in US Motion Picture industry standard
screenplay format.
• To follow standard guidelines for format, consult any popular
screenwriting text for assistance or purchase a screenwriting software
program.
• Font size must be 12 point and in Courier or New Courier
type.
• Scripts must be 10 pages or less, not counting title page
and covers.
• Pages must be numbered and may be bound between two pieces
of paper or cardstock as covers (to protect them), three-hole punch
and fastened with two brads .
• Text must be on one side only.
• ONLY the TITLE of the screenplay should appear on the front
stock cover (legibly printed or typed).
• A second title page should be included (loose, not stapled),
with TITLE, AUTHOR, ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER.
• As all judging is anonymous, author's name must NOT appear
anywhere else on the script.
• Submissions must include a two sentence logline to be placed
directly after the fronT (stock) cover, enclosed within the brads...NOT
COUNTED IN THE 10 PAGES.
• No faxes please. NO CHANGES OR MISSING PAGES WILL BE ACCEPTED!
