Founded in 1985, Association Travelling organises each year a film festival to promote British cinema. Since 1997 Travelling has enlarged it’s cinematographic panorama by introducing the Irish cinema to it’s festival which is now entitled « Festival of Irish and British Film ».
The festival lasts eight days and consists of recent productions, avant-premières and a competition. The history of Irish and British cinema is largely evoked during it’s tributes and
retrospectives.
Since 1993 the festival organises a competition of fiction feature films by directors that yet have to be distributed in France, giving a Jury and Audience Prize. The competition is open to Irish and British films from first or second-time directors with the aim of encouraging young film makers in the industry.
With the same aim in mind, a competition of short films has been organised since 2002. This competition, which was originally reserved for British cinema schools, has now extended submission to other nationalities, notably French schools.
The festival celebrates it’s 20th edition in April 2005. For this occasion the association hopes to expand it’s horizons and give a new vigour to the festival while keeping, on the one hand, the main themes of its programme and on the other, the convivial atmosphere that is much appreciated by all those who attend.

The Cherbourg Film Festival with its tributes and retrospectives dedicated to various members of the British and Irish film industries has become a must for those interested in the discovery and promotion of films from Ireland and Great Britain.

During a one-week period, the Festival brings together directors, producers and distributors, centred around a jury comprised of celebrities from the film industry. Last year the Festival was attended by 7000 people who participated in the debates at the end of the projections.
