Human Rights Film Festival

Between 16-25 November, Belgium will host the 50th Anniversary of Human Rights Film Festival. Based simultaneously in Brussels, Liège, Antwerp, Ghent and Charleroi, the festival will be presented in collaboration with). most of the global non-governmental organisations active in the domain of human rights. Support has also been offered from more than 40 professional film organisations and antennae around the world.

The programme will comprise an official selection of 10 international features produced in 1997/8, receiving their European or Belgian premiere. There will be a section of features from around the world made in the last five years, all of which will be new to Belgian audiences, as well as retrospectives and documentary and short film sections. All films within the festival will address the 30 articles of the Human Rights declaration of 1994.

"The festival will start in Belgium but it is a movable feast," commented organiser Rudi Barnet. "Other countries are interested in what we are doing. Human rights is not the property of Belgium alone." Nicholas Cunningham
