Fiery return to fiction for Pirjo

Finnish director Pirjo Honkasalo, whose Atman won First Prize at last year's Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival, is returning to fiction, preparing her first feature for 10 years.

To be produced by Marko Röhr Productions, with Sweden's Aquavite Film & Media, pubcaster SVT Drama, and Finland's YLE1, Tulennielijä (Fire-Eater) will star Swedish singer Eva Dahlgren in a drama about a mother and two daughters.

Per producer Ilkka Matila, the film will shoot in Helsinki and Lappland, with Kjell Lagerroos (Jägarna/The Hunters) behind the camera. The cast also includes actor-acrobat Jordi Borrell, Circo Perilles and members of the Moscow Lilliput Circus.

Educated at the Finnish Film School and the Temple University of Philadelphia, Honkasalo teamed up with director-producer Pekka Lehto in 1975. Together they made - among others - Tulipää (Flame Top/1980), a contender at Cannes.

Screening in the EFM, Atman follows a Rajasthani family on a pilgrimage from the River Ganges to the Himalayas. JRJ
